Scarcity sends the sick scrambling for medication
A record 267 drugs were in short supply or completely unavailable in 2011, affecting 550,000 patients nationwide. The shortage includes antibiotics, anesthetics, drugs for cancer treatment and heart conditions, along with intravenous nutrition therapy. Even Valium has been scarce. The problem is continuing affecting people of all ages despite attempts by the federal government to speed up production of crucial drugs. Continue reading

A Passion for Personal Health Records
Dehydrated, disoriented and with a high fever, Dan Schiavello avoided a potential life-threatening situation by having his health records on his portable flash drive. The ER doctor reviewed the contents of his Minerva Flash Drive and it revealed that Dan was allergic to an antibiotic that about to be administed. When Schiavello returned home after his two-month stay, he decided to develop a version of Minerva Health Manager for consumers where they could carry a version of their personal health records with them, saving them in case of an emergency.
